Mike’s interest in racing goes back to his childhood, and his enthusiasm for the sport is a big part of Fatboy’s success. He is a talented mechanic who enjoys working on race cars; but his true talent may be in public relations. He helped name the team, and his idea for team logo apparel resulted in a contract with a local monogramming business. He sold the first two dozen Fatboy logo hats in one week; and since then, they have sold 18 dozen more, along with scores of jackets, T-shirts, sweatshirts and even briefcases. In fact, Fatboy apparel now competes with NASCAR items in the souvenir stand at Raceway Park. And the fans aren’t just in the stands: Mike’s truck, one of Fatboy’s pull vehicles, is a 1983 Dodge half-ton pickup with a contractor’s box, the team’s popularity has grown in the pits as well. The truck is stocked with many spare parts and a set of cutting torches, so the team has been able to help many drivers literally "get back on track" during races.

Mike’s has enjoyed watching the team expand from the Enduro series into multiple divisions. And he is looking forward to seeing it continue to branch out, with a hope to build and race a Dodge Late Model in the next few seasons.
